Description

Creamy Crab & Shrimp Au Gratin is a rich, indulgent seafood casserole made with tender shrimp and crab meat baked in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with a golden, bubbly crust.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 8 oz lump crab meat, picked over
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and sauté garlic until fragrant.
  3. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk or cream and cook until thickened.
  5. Stir in Gruyère, mozzarella, and half of the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Season sauce with paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Gently fold in shrimp and crab meat.
  8. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish.
  9. Top with remaining Parmesan and breadcrumbs if using.
  10. Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden.
  11. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

  • Use fresh or high-quality canned crab meat for best results.
  • Serve with crusty bread or over rice.
  • Broil for the last 2 minutes for extra browning.
