Description

Crispy Cilantro Lime Chicken Sandwiches feature juicy chicken breasts marinated in fresh lime and cilantro, breaded and fried until golden, then served on toasted buns with a zesty sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 sandwich buns
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime zest
  • Lettuce and sliced tomatoes for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix lime juice, cilantro, garlic, salt, and pepper. Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours).
  2. Remove chicken from marinade and dip into buttermilk.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, chili powder, and baking powder.
  4. Dredge chicken in seasoned flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
  5. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry chicken for 5–7 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Drain on paper towels.
  8. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with lime zest to create a quick sauce.
  9. Toast sandwich buns lightly.
  10. Assemble sandwiches with crispy chicken, lime mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes instead of frying.
  • Add sliced jalapeños for extra heat.
  • Use brioche buns for a richer flavor.
  • Best served fresh and hot for maximum crispiness.
