Crispy Cilantro Lime Chicken Sandwiches feature juicy chicken breasts marinated in fresh lime and cilantro, breaded and fried until golden, then served on toasted buns with a zesty sauce.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 4 sandwich buns
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lime zest
- Lettuce and sliced tomatoes for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix lime juice, cilantro, garlic, salt, and pepper. Marinate chicken for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours).
- Remove chicken from marinade and dip into buttermilk.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, paprika, chili powder, and baking powder.
- Dredge chicken in seasoned flour mixture, pressing to coat well.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry chicken for 5–7 minutes per side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with lime zest to create a quick sauce.
- Toast sandwich buns lightly.
- Assemble sandwiches with crispy chicken, lime mayo, lettuce, and tomato. Serve immediately.
Notes
- You can bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes instead of frying.
- Add sliced jalapeños for extra heat.
- Use brioche buns for a richer flavor.
- Best served fresh and hot for maximum crispiness.
