Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened (for glaze)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat eggs, then whisk in buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined (do not overmix).
- Lightly grease waffle iron and pour batter according to waffle maker capacity.
- Cook until waffles are crisp on the outside and cooked through.
- For the glaze, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then add milk gradually until desired consistency.
- Drizzle glaze over warm waffles and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for a more intense red color.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep waffles light and fluffy.
- Top with fresh berries or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
