Description

Fluffy and vibrant red velvet waffles with a hint of cocoa and vanilla, perfect for a special breakfast or brunch topped with cream cheese glaze and fresh berries.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 4 oz (115 g) cream cheese, softened (for glaze)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)


Instructions

  1. Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, then whisk in buttermilk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix until just combined (do not overmix).
  5. Lightly grease waffle iron and pour batter according to waffle maker capacity.
  6. Cook until waffles are crisp on the outside and cooked through.
  7. For the glaze, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then add milk gradually until desired consistency.
  8. Drizzle glaze over warm waffles and serve immediately.
