Ingredients
- 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup (180 ml) milk
- 1 tbsp melted butter or vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup chocolate spread or chocolate chips (for filling)
- Butter or oil for cooking
- Powdered sugar or syrup for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl whisk the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
- Pour about 2 tablespoons of batter onto the skillet to form a small pancake.
- Add about 1 teaspoon of chocolate spread or a few chocolate chips in the center.
- Cover the chocolate with another small spoonful of batter.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes until bubbles appear and the bottom is set, then flip carefully.
- Cook another 2 minutes until the pancake is cooked through.
- Serve warm with powdered sugar, syrup, or extra chocolate drizzle.
Notes
- Make sure the chocolate filling stays in the center so it does not leak while cooking.
- Cook on medium heat to avoid burning the pancakes before the inside cooks.
- You can freeze small dollops of chocolate spread beforehand to make stuffing easier.
- Top with fresh berries, whipped cream, or sliced bananas for extra flavor.
