Description
Flaky, buttery cheese danishes made with golden puff pastry and filled with a sweet, creamy cheese filling, then baked until crisp and lightly glazed for a perfect bakery-style treat.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out puff pastry and cut into squares.
- In a bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, egg yolk, and lemon juice until smooth.
- Spoon a small amount of filling into the center of each pastry square.
- Fold corners slightly toward the center or shape as desired.
- Whisk egg with water and brush over pastry edges.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk to create a glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over slightly cooled danishes and serve.
Notes
- Keep puff pastry cold for best results.
- Do not overfill to prevent leakage.
- Add fruit preserves for variation.
- Best enjoyed fresh the same day.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
