Ingredients
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Spread cherry pie filling evenly in the bottom of the dish.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, stirring until just combined.
- Spoon batter evenly over the cherries without mixing.
- Sprinkle brown sugar and chocolate chips over the top.
- Pour hot water gently over the entire dish (do not stir).
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is set and the bottom is gooey.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Do not stir after adding hot water; it creates the cobbler texture.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Fresh or frozen cherries can be used instead of canned.
- Adjust sweetness based on preference.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated.
